“to love life, to love it even
when you have no stomach for it
and everything you've held dear
crumbles like burnt paper in your hands,
your throat filled with the silt of it.
When grief sits with you, its tropical heat
thickening the air, heavy as water
more fit for gills than lungs;
when grief weights you like your own flesh
only more of it, an obesity of grief,
you think, How can a body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms, a plain face,
no charming smile, no violet eyes,
and you say, yes, I will take you
I will love you, again.”

Market Day

Market day

Sea-ribbed from their boat-bellied passage,
Multicolored colts and flickas circle holding pens
Lipping pounded earth for hidden salt, tossing
Tinseled halters with braided tagging collars
Raising voices that claim the world for their own
Wallpaper horse, white, pen, sun, sand

Solitude (reblogged)

Solitude.
Posted by in Poem
Sitting here
Takes the time away.
And as time slips, I focus,
Only to become lost in thought.
I cherish this moment,
Steeped in blissful quiescence.
For at this time,
I am not weighed by labels.
At this time,
I am neither student nor boyfriend
Nor the son of my parents, nor Indian
I am human, I am alive.
Reality pervades in intervals, though.
Bringing with it the sum of my problems.
In waves of fractured glass, I am submerged,
Immersed in reflections
And for those moments
I merely exist among myself.
But like the ocean, reality recedes
I stare as it makes its way back into its crevice
As a result, reality becomes clear
I become filled with understanding.
Beginning to lose focus,
Slipping back into objectivity.
As tenses begin to make sense
I tense and assume the proper pretense
Until the next moment comes.reader_by_ka_92-d4qvxtr

The sand beneath the water
Clouds beneath the tread
Of footsteps yet unseen
By the creature not in bed.

An angel of mercy,
A herald of death,
She held a bleeding starfish
In a fragile Dixie cup.

But trees can’t hold back the morning
Nor rocks hold back the tides
And within this epoch of shadow
A fellow creature dies

elemental flight

from Karina Meneghini on Pintrest
This is in response to a poem by MesAyah on WordPress

elemental flight

having gone too far, the wings
pierce sunshine, disappearing into
a dandelion that rests in the still pool
which curves across the sky as it waits
to rejoin the sea; and pinioned shepherds
of fleecy clouds shade their eyes, placing
friendly bets on when that foolish bird
will wilt but, still, not a one sees me
tumble out the other side and into
shimmering celestials where
the touch of fresh freedom tastes
like tangy pineapple juice on my skin,
and feathers sing as i zip past that zodiac,
i skip through chaotic simplicity like a stone,
the orbiting constellations embed themselves
in shining, streaming strands of braided hair,
colorful comets dance at my feet and i wrap
myself in Cosmos and utterly dissolve,
becoming one with unbounded Life
again.
